Common reasons for closure
- Evidence of an active mouse, rat or roach infestation in food areas.
- No hot water, or no working hand-wash sinks.
- Sewage backup or other plumbing failures.
- Operating without a valid permit.
- An inspection score high enough to signal an imminent health risk.
How a restaurant reopens
A closed restaurant must correct the conditions and request a re-inspection. It can reopen only after an inspector confirms the problems are fixed. Restaurants that reopen after a closure post a Grade Pending card until their next graded inspection.
Track closures
Closure records appear in the inspection data within days. Our recent closures page lists every restaurant the Health Department has closed in the last 90 days, updated automatically.
